Cristina’s Story

Epilepsy is a reality we never expected to face, but it has become an essential part of our family’s journey. Two years ago, when Grace was diagnosed with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy, our lives were turned upside down. The first seizure was a terrifying experience that left us in a state of shock and fear. The following two seizures weren’t easy, but we have learned to deal with them better. Since then, we’ve spent the last two years getting to know other families with children with epilepsy and bonding with many people at Epilepsy Foundation Arizona. We have been so blessed to find so many resources and people to lean on and help us understand this disease. 

Grace has shown us her resilience and fortitude through this experience. She has had to mature faster than her peers, and that is where she found her advocacy. With every step we take together, we’re learning more about how to best support her and others living with epilepsy. There’s still so much we don’t know, but we’re hopeful for the future, and we’re committed to raising awareness and supporting research to help those who need it most.
